Sophie Seeger

“My career has always combined a strong creative process, from development, writing and editing, to my art. It wasn’t until my daughters were out of nappies however, that I joined a studio and picked up where I’d left off. It was like a re-birthing experience.

“My works are truly expressionistic - from my barely-there landscapes, to my pure abstract works. Each line, painted, drawn or scratched out, spontaneously creates the composition; although there is an element of intuition that also leads - so the accidental plays a delicate role. Often my works change direction in that quest for balance of line and tone.

"I use washes in some works combined with bridging and layering. Placement of colour is important to me for visual shifting or that element of surprise. In my portraits, I have drawn in charcoal and then used an oil glaze to distort and abstract.

"Born in South Africa and having lived in Australia for 24 years, I do have a passion for where the sky meets the horizon line and this is apparent in my more figurative works. My works encompass a life-time of passion for the arts and are my self-reflections. My joy is for others to associate with my works on some level."
