Jane Canfield -

Images from left to right: "Katoomba Morning", "Winter Morning Parke Street, Katoomba" and "Solitary View" - all oil on canvas by Jane Canfield

Opening drinks Saturday 16th August 5-7pm (The exhibition runs for 2 weeks)

“It is a strange thing that although I prefer to be in nature and surrounded by bush, I am continually drawn to urban themes in my painting. Architecture and the graphic shapes they present, shadows and colours are becoming even more of a theme in my work." Jane Canfield

This series is a combination of Icons in the minds of many locals living in the mountains - mainly oil paintings; the works range from urban to bush scapes. With many of Jane's works sketched and painted on location, like the Impressionists, she manages to catch the light that is unique to the time of day and season; as well as the mood and movement.

Preview of new works available under figurative Icons... For sales enquiries please call Sophie on 0412 445 660.

Paul du Moulin - The Velvet Revolution: a moment in time
Paul du Moulin - The Velvet Revolution: a moment in time
Images from left to right: "Stage 4, Girl on the street"; "Faces # 6, The Colonel", and "Stage 2, Play that violin" - all oil by Paul du Moulin.

"Paul du Moulin was selected for an artist's residency in the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov last year 2007. During his time there, Paul was compelled to research, record and paint the essence of a medieval town in its political transition.

"Paul's series of De Chirico-esque urbanscapes; and portraits of Cesky Krumlov locals; are hauntingly beautiful. Look into them, and the story will unfold..........." Sophie Seeger

CONTEMPLATING THE CHANGES IN THE CZECH TOWN OF CESKY KRUMLOV DURING THE BREAKDOWN OF COMMUNISM IN 1989.

This series of works looks at the moment in Czech history, 1989, when the country threw off communism.

"The velvet revolution was a bloodless coup. That moment of frozen emotion when people looked around at what they had done. Is this the future? Was the past so bad? Elation at destroying the oppressors... but were they oppressors? Were the people mislead, and where are they now? Sentimental for the past and staring at the future..." Paul du Moulin

Paul's new series is to be exhibited at Seeger Gallery from September 20th 2008. For further information call Sophie on 0412 445 660; or email info@seegergallery.com

Upcoming workshops:

Jane Canfield - "Walk and sketch Leura Village - learn the foundations of gouache."
Sat 2nd August 4-7pm and Wed 20th August 10-1pm
"Many of the French Impressionists used Gouache for 'Plein Air' (painting outside and on-site) colour sketches and final artworks. The flexibility and almost oil-like qualities that can be achieved using this water colour paint make it a wonderful medium for exploring the use of dry brushwork and texture." Jane

Janice Slater - "Free Your Voice" - voice workshop for Teenagers/Young Adults
Sat 23rd August 4-6pm (Max 8 in a class)
"Have fun and learn to use your voice in a supportive environment. Explore freeing the natural voice through breathing, play; and working creatively with text while building self-confidence. The workshop is suitable for teenagers/young adults studying English and/or drama. Chosen text is “Romeo and Juliet”.

“Voice can be many things. It can be shouting, singing, whispering, humming, and laughing! Your voice is your way of saying things – the energy you bring to communicate! You don’t have to discover it, you already have it! Our voice responds to play, to movement; and thought and feeling – its fuel is the body moving, and the imagination!” Janice Slater

Janice has worked with film director Gillian Armstrong, the Sydney Theatre Company and Cate Blanchett; she is a vocal coach/sound designer and script editor having worked as a dramaturge on numerous theatre productions; and as a script assessor for ‘The Australian National Playwrights Association’; as well as ‘Playworks,’ and ABC Radio Drama and TV.

Sophie Seeger - "Express Yourself"
Wed 6th August 10-12pm and Sat 13th September 4-6pm
"Abstract expressionism is based on the emotional response - learn to express yourself through line, colour, tone and balance. Leave your inhibitions behind, this is an "out-of-the-box" workshop that will free you from the constraints of "re"creating; and guide you to listen to your intuition." Sophie

The workshops suit beginners and those new to Abstract Expressionism. You will learn basic theory intermingled with the practical to assist you in creating your own abstract artwork. Workshops can be held in the gallery; or depending on the weather, out in the open.
